Vaults are workspaces that hold your Markdown files. In acreom, you can use a Local Vault or Cloud Vault.

Local Vaults

Local Vault stores everything locally on your device as plain text Markdown files. Changes to those files will reflect in acreom.

Additionally, the vault is offline and therefore lacks the integrations and sharing options.

Creating and using Local Vaults requires no account.

Cloud Vaults

If you'd like to back up your data or access them on other devices you will need to create a Cloud Vault.

On top of having your data synced to other devices and backed up, Cloud Vaults offer integrations, publishing and a web access.

You can use Cloud Vaults as cloud-only or sync them with your local file system same as Local Vaults.

Your cloud vault will keep the sync with your local file system on by default. You can disable this option to make it a cloud-only vault.

Using 3rd party sync services like iCloud or Dropbox for Local Vaults has not been fully tested yet and might cause unexpected behaviour.

Important: Similarly to using 3rd party sync service, it is not recommended to create and use local vaults placed inside other local vaults.
